Bride was my first Ali Hazelwood book, so I cannot compare to her contemporary romance books. I start with what I liked - the book and main female character, Misery, is really funny and cynic and I liked her personality. Plot is not overwhelming, easy to follow. The romance part - I liked the buildup and yearning, but for me, the final payoff was a little underwhelming, I expected maybe little more. But overall, I recommend this book as light paranormal romance read, with great FMC. Warning: there is an introduction of omegaverse/werewolf specific biology, so if you are not into that, maybe skip this book :)
This ,,sequel" (can be read as standalone, but I highly recommend to read Bride first) was even better than Bride (which I would rate as 3.5/4). It follows different couple introduced in the Bride, but the dynamic and storyline is different. The female lead, Serena, is again, witty, funny, little cynic as was Misery, and I really liked the personality of the male lead. In my opinion, the romance and spice was done better than in the previous book, characters had more chemistry and depth. The plot is kind of predictable, but it still good book if you want a light spicy read. Warning - in this book, we lean even more into the paranormal omegaverse (werewolf) features unique for their biology and therefore - in sexy times. Overall, I recommend!
Navessa Allen made it again - Caught Up is a great second book after Lights Out. This time, we follow a story of different couple. With that, the dynamic of the book changed a little bit, I would say it has less ,,romcom" vibes, it is a little bit more intense, but still with good situational humor. I would suggest before starting this book to acknowledge this is a different story with different characters if you expect Josh and Aly 2.0 - this is not the case. There is maybe little less plot and it is more focused on the relationship and character´s inner world. I enjoyed the spice and tension, the author really knows how to write heated stories. I cannot wait for the 3rd book!
This is easily the best book I have read in 2025 so far. The author came up with another unique story, the writing is beautiful. There are heavy topics balanced with humor, but nothing forced. This book is like a fresh air among the other overhyped fantasy books, where the author actually focus on the story, characters have depth and you cannot put it down. I recommend this 100% if you want something more than spicy scenes glued togehter, something that has actual plot and tension. 5/5
I recommend this author and series to anybody who likes fantasy/romantasy! It is very well written, good pacing, interesting premise and the banter is actually funny :) FMC is strong and clever. I rate only 4/5 because you can kind of predict the twist, there is one trope I don´t really like in romance, but nevertheless, I enjoyed and it is better than most overhyped fantasy books. Also, if you like Vikings, this is must read for you! I am yet to read the second book, I will review separately.
