Skyscrapers

Like in the past the towers of the cathedrals, sky scrapers became the defining features of cityscapes with the advent of the 20th century. Since the turn of the millennium they are again among the most prestigious and coveted architectural challenges. The design freedom of contours and the plastic volume of blobs have long since superseded the purely orthogonal towers of the past.

Most current projects are being implemented in the Arab-Asian realm, such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world's highest building. At the same time, in the USA, the native home of skyscrapers, new towers are also under construction – and also in Europe buildings are reaching for the sky. In addition to the key projects of this remarkable skyscraper renaissance, this volume presents the most spectacular towers still under construction as well as future-oriented experimental designs.
