Despite the noticeable difference between different areas, some common elements seem to unite all African artistic traditions: statues of ancestors or gods, masks (whether ceremonial, liturgical, celebratory, magic, or for everyday use), weapons, fabrics and jewellery, together outline a world rich in shapes, colours and materials.
