This Reader provides a radical new perspective on the work of France's leading living social theorist Pierre Bourdieu, presenting arguments for reading Bourdieu as a philosopher.This volume aims to promote a fruitful dialogue between Bourdieu and philosophers of the English-speaking world. The contributors critically assess Bourdieu's philosophical theories and their significance from diverse philosophical perspectives to reveal which dimensions of his thought are the most useful for philosophy today.The contributions cover Bourdieu's use of central figures of the Anglo-American philosophical tradition, his position in terms of twentieth-century continental philosophy, and the political dimension of his work. The book also includes an analysis of his most recent, untranslated works and concludes with a chapter by Bourdieu in which he analyses the problems, motives and transformations involved in importing intellectual ideas from one field to another.
