But once he has his first forbidden taste of those red lips, Tyler can't help but break all his rules for Poppy-no matter what it might cost them both.

I don’t want to be rude or invalidate anyone’s opinion about this book, but personally, I really didn’t like it. I’d probably give it like a 2/5

The whole story felt pretty pointless and empty to me. For example, Tyler’s constant struggles with guilt, faith, and his responsibilities as a priest felt completely pointless, considering that the moment he became interested in Poppy, he basically seemed to forget about all of those issues. Idk, the whole thing just felt really forced to me.

I also feel like this book tries a little too hard to be controversial at times. I’m Catholic, although I wouldn’t consider myself as devout as some people around me, and some things in this book felt a little too far for me. For example, the moment Tyler sees Poppy and completely forgets about all of his responsibilities as a priest and immediately starts seducing her in places or in ways that are sacred to him as a priest. Personally, I didn’t find it provocative in a good way. It felt more like it was there just for the sake of being shocking and controversial.

Their relationship also felt incredibly shallow to me. The only things they seemed to genuinely have in common were that they both liked The Walking Dead and that they liked sleeping together. And that just wasn’t enough for me to believe in their relationship. I wanted to see some actual emotional or personality-based connection between them beyond sharing stories after sex.

And then there’s Tyler, who constantly talks about how much of a feminist he is, while he treats her in ways that just don’t really align with that at all. He degrades and objectifies her quite often, so his comments about feminism came across as more hypocritical than convincing to me. But then again, in the girl’s defense, she seems to like it???? So I guess it’s okay???? idk

Maybe it’s just me, though. I haven’t been reading spice for that long, and I especially don’t usually read books written from a male POV, so maybe this particular writing style or the way the story was structured just wasn’t for me.

Either way, this is just my personal opinion. I understand that this book might work for some people, and that the controversial elements might actually be part of the reason they enjoy it. Unfortunately, it just really wasn’t for me.

Kniha ma hneď od začiatku vtiahla. Páčilo sa mi, že príbeh nebol typická romantická klišé, ale priniesol niečo odvážnejšie, čo som predtým ešte nečítala. Autorka veľmi dobre vystihla vnútorný konflikt hlavnej postavy a celé to pôsobilo intenzívne a napínavo.
Príbeh bol vášnivý, emotívny a miestami až šokujúci, no práve to z neho robilo také pútavé čítanie. Nedalo sa mi prestať a stránky som doslova hltala. Ak hľadáte romantiku, ktorá je trochu temnejšia, provokatívna a zároveň písaná veľmi pútavým štýlom, určite odporúčam. Pre mňa to bol silný čitateľský zážitok.
