I love Talia Hibbert’s The Brown Sisters Trilogy, what can I say.
Is it real (how things happen in this book)? No way. But is it even the point? One view says that art should not depict and describe reality, but create a world of its own. Which this book totally accomplishes. It’s not real, but it’s still believable because it stands on real foundations.
Is it the best, most original piece of literature? No. But it doesn’t have to be for it to be cosy, unapologetically British, funny, witty, humane. Hopeful, psychologically deep.
All of the Brown Sisters is like a warm beverage (that doesn’t turn cold) or a hug (that ends just a bit too early, for my taste - because I don’t want to leave this literary universe just yet).
Product of love. Love of writing, creation, comfort and sharing it all. Which is scary - to be vulnerable and share what you’re excited about with the world - but at the same time it’s brave, mature and admirable.
