Michael Bond was born in Newbury, Berkshire, England on 13th January 1926. He was educated at Presentation College, Reading. During World War II Michael Bond served in both the Royal Air Force and the Middlesex Regiment of the British Army.
He began writing in 1945 and sold his first short story to a magazine called London Opinion. This experience helped him decide that he wanted to be a writer.
Michael Bond never thought of writing for children but, after producing a number of short stories and radio plays, his agent suggested that he adapt a television play for children.
His first book, A Bear Called Paddington, was published in 1958 by William Collins & Sons (now HarperCollins Publishers). At the time, Michael Bond was working as a television cameraman for the BBC.
After the first Paddington book was accepted, Michael Bond went on to write a whole series and by 1967 his books were so successful that that he was able to give up his job with the BBC in order to become a full-time writer.
In 1997 Michael Bond was awarded to OBE for services to children’s literature. He is married with two adult children and lives in London, not far from Paddington Station.

Ondráš Machuľa veru biedny tvor boží. Kto len pozrie naň, musí ho poľutovať. Akoby Stvoriteľ chcel vzbudiť v ľuďoch obdiv, zasypúc ho všetkými nedostatkami. Hlava veľká, krytá ostrými vlasmi, ktoré svojou nepoddajnosťou ponášajú sa na zvieraciu srsť. Čelo nízke, oči nápadne malé, lícne kosti vypuklé, nos rozpľaštený na kabáč a ústa široké. Postava malá, nevyvinutá, zhŕbená. Keď kráča, ruky mu vopred celembajú ako cepy — celý človek málo ponáša sa na človeka.
Ľudia s útrpnosťou hľadia naň a s istou šetrnosťou chovajú sa k nemu, ako k malému, slabému dieťaťu. Len on sám nedrží sa za mrzáka, spokojný je sám so sebou, nikdy nezareptal proti svojmu osudu a biede. Ba zdá sa, že sám seba drží za pekného, lebo často zastane na brehu močidla a márnivo prizerá sa do nečistej hladiny jeho. Vkus má, zná rozoznať pekné od mrzkého — no o svojej osobe predpojato súdi. Nuž, je človekom.
Rodičia jeho boli veľmi hodní lenovskí hospodári. Každý ich rád videl, ako hodných, znášanlivých ľudí. Nikto ani zlého slova o nich nevedel. I veľmi ich ľutoval každý, keď narodil sa im tento syn, Ondráš. V dedine začalo sa pošuškávať, že im ho striga vymenila za pekné, podarené dieťa. Iní zas vytýkali šestnonedieľke, že načo sa na tom jarmoku na tú opicu zadívala…

Kruté, surové, šialené a búrlivé ako samotné výšiny
Stavím sa, že neexistuje kniha, ktorá by sa čo i len trochu podobala na Búrlivé výšiny. Tento príbeh rozdelil spoločnosť natoľko, že aj 200 rokov po smrti Emily Brontëovej o ňom stále hovoríme a priťahuje nové generácie čitateľov. Na Búrlivých výšinách nebolo búrlivé len počasie, ale aj samotné postavy, ich dialógy a udalosti, ktoré sa tam odohrali.
Na historických románoch ma najviac baví vášeň, s akou postavy prežívajú každý moment. Keď milujú, milujú na život a na smrť. Keď sa zrania, vykúpi ich jedine pomsta. Do čítania som sa pohltila natoľko, že som úplne zabudla na okolie. V predstavách som sa túlala po vresoviskách a urputne prežívala udalosti na oboch usadlostiach.
Prvýkrát sa mi stalo, že som si nedokázala obľúbiť alebo vôbec pochopiť správanie postáv. Azda s výnimkou Edgara Lintona, ktorý bol zo všetkých asi najnormálnejší. Všetci sa správali ako šialení maniaci, plní surovosti cítila som to na každej stránke, v každej vete. Najviac som nedokázala vystáť práve Catherine, pretože sa väčšinu času správala ako totálna drama queen, a extrémne ufňukaného Lintona mladšieho.
