Více o knize

The definitive biography of Robert Redford. He has appeared on stage and screen, in front of and behind the camera, earning Academy, Golden Globe, and other awards and nominations for his acting, directing, and producing. His Sundance Film Festival transformed the world of filmmaking.

Robert Redford is among the widely admired Hollywood stars of his generation. But only now, with this revelatory biography, will we see behind the Hollywood facade to the surprising and complex man. Redford made available to Michael Feeney Callan his personal papers: journals, script notes, correspondence, hundreds of hours of taped interviews.

Here is his family background and childhood, his rocky start in acting, the death of his son, his star-making relationship with director Sydney Pollack, the establishment of Sundance, his political involvement, artistic successes and failures, friendships and romances. Here is a revelation of a man whose iconic roles on screen (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, All the President's Men, The Natural) and directorial brilliance (Ordinary People, Quiz Show) have both defined and obscured him.

Spokesman´s statement rather than an honest down to earth account of a life
As a fan you expect to acquire some extended knowledge on the subject presented, or even a deeper feel for the person. Not here. In this case you get the knowledge, unfortunately it comes in the form of a realization that the protagonist presents himself in the exact manner as he has been doing all those past circa 60 years in the public light. All very private, the tone very official. There is little fun in the book in spite Redford being a legendary practical joker. The book tends to shape itself as a spokesman´s statement rather than an honest down to earth account of a life. The book is a disappointment, yet when you realize how touchy Redford is about privacy; the entire idea for a book on his life is a joke. Maybe that is his latest practical joke on the public. Read Paul Newman - The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man instead, now, that is a book on life. Sorry Bob.
